Unknown gunmen yesterday, June 12, attacked the Bayelsa
state government house. The gunmen were suspected to be kidnappers, whose
target was Chinese nationals lodged in the government house. The gunmen were
said to have gained access to the government house through the waterways behind
the complex to perpetuate the act.
It is also alleged that the Chinese nationals, who were six
in number, were woken up by the invasion of the gunmen some minutes before
midnight. A source in the government house who narrated what happened said:
“One of the Chinese nationals was bold enough to tackle one of the kidnappers
and disarm him.
“The Chinese national later opened fire and the sporadic
gunshot attracted heavy security presence at the main entrance of the
government house.” Another source validated the story saying: “The Chinese man
attacked one of the kidnappers and collected his gun at the Castle Hotel in
Government House, Yenagoa.”
