Fani-Kayode set to sue the Nigerian newspaper

The former minister of aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode has threatened to take a Nigerian newspaper, the Nation, to court over a false report made against him.

In a letter written by his lawyers, Ifedayo Adedipe and Ahmed Raji, the former minister advised the newspaper to retract its story and tendered an apology over the allegation made against him by the newspaper.

“In the meantime, you are hereby advised to retract the said comments made about our client and tender an unreserved apology to him through the same medium and any other widely read/circulated media outfit.

“Our client reserves legal protection by operation of law and we will be left with no preferred alternative than to enforce or seek such remedies against you and Yusuf Alli, if you fail to so do within seven days. You are also advised to enter into negotiation for damages,” the letter said.

It also said that legal actions will be taken against the Nation if the newspaper continues to embarrass the former minister.

On Wednesday, May 4, the Nation in its report said that the EFCC was ready to launch a manhunt against Fani-Kayode.

The Nation’s report also said that the former minister had gone into hiding having perceived that the anti-graft agency was after him following revelations made by a former governor of Imo state, Achike Udenwa.

In its report, the Nation said that Udenwa in his interrogation at the EFCC’s office said Fani-Kayode received N840 million from the former governor.

But in a statement on Wednesday, May 5, Fani-Kayode denied any invitation from the EFCC.

He also said he has not gone into hiding and have been in his Abuja residence for the past few weeks.

He further called on the EFCC to desist from using the media in criminalizing him
