Nigeria lost a veteran actress, Bukky Ajayi, who died today at the age of 82. Here, we bring you 8 things you didn’t know about the late screen-diva.
1. She was a devout Muslim even though
she was born a christian. She converted to Islam in the early eighties
and chose the name Zainab.
2. She was given a government scholarship which enabled her to study in England. She was abroad for six years.
3. When she left England and came back
to Nigeria, she worked with the Nigeria Television Authority(NTA) as a
presentation assistant in 1966 after which she became a presenter and
then a news reader.
4. She acted in the old, popular
television series, ‘Village Headmaster’ in the 70s, and she later got a
role in Amaka Igwe’s ‘Checkmate.’
5. During the span of her illustrious
movie career, she featured in so many home videos that she herself lost
count.Shooting the international film ‘Critical Assignment’ in South
Africa, according to her, was one of the events of her life that she
claimed in an interview that she would never forget. It gave her an
opportunity to see how movie making was done elsewhere, other than
Nigeria, where a movie is shot in five days.
6. Bukky Ajayi’s popular movies include Mother of George, Indecent Girl, Diamond Ring, Witches, Thunderbolt among others.
7. She was Jazzman Olofin’s grandmother-In-law.
