Governor Ayodele Fayose described President Muhammadu Buhari as his grandfather

the interests of Nigerians

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state said he has a grandfather-like realtionship with President Muhammadu Buhari and denied any hatred towards him.

Speaking at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) World Press Freedom Day lecture on Tuesday in Ibadan, Oyo state, he said: “I don’t abuse Buhari because he is my grandfather. But we all must not sleep and face the same direction in this country.

The people voted for him because they wanted change and I agreed with that because we really needed change.

They told Nigerians that when they get into power there will be no subsidy and there will be no queues again but today full subsidy and queues are here. In the last 12 months, Nigerians have never had it so bad. Most generators have been exhausted.”

Explaining his persistent criticism of the Buhari-led administration the guest speaker said that it is a necessary measure to ensure economic and political development in the country.

He stressed that “being his grandfather” does not mean he would allow the president to go in the wrong direction and let the ship of the nation to drift away dangerously to perdition.

Delivering his keynote speech on the topic “Journalism and Politics: Two Sides of A Coin,” Mr Fayose said there were two things that people fear the most  — they are afraid to die and be locked away.

Responding to the recent arrests of some Nigerians by agents of the federal government without any evidence of criminal charges, he stated that it was against the rights of any citizen to be detained for several weeks without any proof.

Earlier the controversial governor said that former president Goodluck Jonathan should not have contested in the 2015 presidential election, adding that all elderly people in the party must take the backstage
