THE BACTERIA EATING NIGERIA UP by Joseph Steven Chukwudi

On May 11 being Wednesday, the nation was rocked with the announcement of the new Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) or generally called Petrol price of #45 per liter by the minister of state for petroleum resources Dr. Ibe Kachikwu. This announcement further insinuated the removal of fuel subsidy by the Federal Government therefore oil marketers would be allowed to import PMS on the basis of foreign exchange procured from secondary sources, which would be reflected accordingly in the PPPRA template for pricing of the product. What this means is that the price of petrol can be any amount but shouldn't exceed #145.00 per liter.
Since this declaration, things have never been the same in the nation, all over the radio, TV stations, cable stations, news papers, car parks, road side, church gathering and in fact anywhere you find a Nigerian, you hear different views, arguments and voicing of angry opinions, some for the Federal Government and bulk of the angry views and comments against the Federal Government for the removal of subsidy and the hike in fuel price. The truth is that I have taken time to study Nigerians in order to know what really is our problem and I came to a conclusion which most of you would agree with me and some against and some in between as well.
The truth is even before the removal of fuel subsidy and the hike in fuel price, Nigerians have been suffering. Just like what some persons say "The time of Goodluck Jonathan things were better, fuel was #87 per liter...." Truth be told, whether Goodluck Jonathan or Muhammadu Buhari, PDP or APC, Nigerians will still be Nigerians, we are never patient, we take advantage of every small opportunity we see to exploit others, we are too quick to react to issues without proper reasoning, we attribute our political and party lines and stands to every issue whether it's for national development or not, and many other things we do which would come later in this article.
I followed the price of PMS from the Goodluck Jonathan era till date, there was a time during the regime fuel was sold for #65.00 per liter then it rose to #87.00 which was inherited by the Buhari regime, then it was brought down to #86.50.00 and now #145.00. This brings us to the bacteria's eating up Nigeria from inside which we don't know.

1. GREED:
Nigerian's are so greedy, we want to exploit others to make profit thereby exploiting our fellow Nigerian's to enrich ourselves. It will amaze you of course it won't amaze you because you experience this too, the fact that when fuel was sold for N87.00 per liter, we Nigerians still bought fuel for 90, 100, 95, 110, 120 naira and even above in filling stations all over the country, is this not greed? Some persons trying to make excess profit for themselves. The thing that baffles me is the market woman who increases the price of her goods and attributes it to the price of fuel even goods that have nothing to do with importation and transportation. Is this not greed? Are we not killing ourselves?

2. POLITICIZING ISSUES:
We Nigerians love politicizing everything good or bad, if it is the APC in power, the PDP  would counter every decision made by the APC and the APC to the PDP as well, we don’t care to know if those decisions are for national development/ benefit of the common man or national damnation, we just take sides with our political party to criticize and kill ideas that would benefit the nation. I ask again, are we not killing ourselves?
3. QUICK IN REACTING & DECISION MAKING:
It was shocking to know that on Thursday 12th after the announcement of the increase of fuel pump price on Wednesday 11th may, 2016, in port Harcourt, the price of goods automatically rose, transportation fare increased and when you ask why, you get responses like “fuel don increase na”, “I dey manufacture fuel?” even though these goods were still old goods, so many petrol stations were very happy with this because it is another opportunity to make it big, enough  profit and so on. And I ask again, are we not the ones killing ourselves?

When petrol was N 86.50, we bought fuel for N120.00, N110.00, and N130.00 and so on and I guess some persons across the nation did so too. Yes we known the government from the federal to state and our leaders all over aren’t good, but I ask are we good ourselves? It is difficult to see one person who is spotless on this corruption thing in this nation, Nigerians we are all corrupt, from the person selling on the streets to those learning trade, those in offices, pastors, deacons and deaconesses, church leaders in general, politicians, even in the sports, entertainment industry, educational sector, armed forces etc. The truth is once Nigerians see the slightest opportunity to make money and exploit others (their fellow Nigerians), they don’t think twice about it. When talking about corruption which will come up in subsequent publications, it is not only the person taking bribe that is corrupt, the person giving out the bribe is as well corrupt and corruption is not limited to bribery, there other forms of corruption.
I drop my pen by saying the bacteria eating Nigeria up is Nigerians. The politician is a Nigerian, the middle class/average Nigerian and lower class/common Nigerian are all Nigerians.

WATCH OUT FOR THE ANTI-BIOTICS TO KILLING THE BACTERIA EATING NIGERIA UP.
